JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of Dietary Services is accountable for the overall management of the dietary department, including proper budgetary management skills, provision of food and supplies, excellent food preparation and meal service for the residents, and a clean safe environment in accordance with quality management, legislative requirements and the organizations standards.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans, co-ordinates, directs and monitors the effectiveness of all operational activities within the dietary department.
  • Oversees all production including food and non-food purchases, receiving, inventory control and implementation and follow up of Production sheets in the department.
  • Participates in the recruitment, employee and labour relations, orientation, occupational and non-occupational injury/illness, performance management, training, education and other people related functions of the Home for respective department staff.
  • Responds promptly to concerns of residents and family members, mediating a satisfactory response to concerns and implements action plans to avoid reoccurrence of similar issues.
  • Establishes and sustains clinical care in a manner that is resident centred and fosters evidence based best practice.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate of a recognized Food Service Supervisor’s diploma course.
  • A degree in dietetics, food service administration and management is an asset.
  • Must be a member of the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management. Student memberships are not applicable.
  • Member of or eligible for membership in the Ontario Society of Nutrition Management.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in the long-term care home sector is an asset.
