Nutrition Care Manager for Huronlea Home for the Aged in Brussels, Ontario –
a municipal home operated by the County of Huron

The County of Huron, in cooperation with the Province of Ontario, operates two not-for-profit long term care homes: Huronview in Clinton and Huronlea in Brussels. Residents are provided with support for all their individual care needs through a team approach, including family, health professionals and the local community. Attached to these facilities, the County of Huron provides one and two bedroom apartments available for people 65 years and over.

Position Summary:
This position of Nutrition Care Manager works collaboratively with the Homes Management Team to plan, organize, coordinate, evaluate and improve the provision of dietary services to the residents at Huronlea. This position provides leadership for the dietary staff and supports an environment which promotes the mission, vision and values of the Homes. The Nutrition Care Manager is responsible for the quality of the food and service provided in the Home, adhering to the Long Term Care Homes Act and Regulations, the standards established by the Homes and other related legislation, e.g. Public Health, Ministry of Labour, County by-laws and policies and procedures. This is a part-time position that works out of Huronlea (Brussels) 3 days a week.

Responsibilities:
• Is aware of the legislation governing Long-Term Care, Food Services, Health Unit, Ministry of Labour, Occupational
   Health and Safety, Resident Bill of Rights and ensures that the departments are working within these regulations.
• Supervises the daily operation of the dietary department, including but not restricted to scheduling, ordering, meal
   supervision, catering, cleaning operations, staff supervision and other related duties.
• Develops and implements policies and procedures to meet the departmental goals and objectives and the Homes
   mission, vision and value statements.
• Collaborates with Human Resources department in personnel recruitment, evaluation, corrective or disciplinary action.
• Attends Residents’ and Tenants’ Food Committees and responds to voiced concerns in a timely manner.
• Oversees the administration of clinical dietitian contracts.
• Works with the Dietitian in ensuring residents’ nutrition needs are met, including proper documentation.
• Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement programs as well as other internal and/or corporate committee work as     
   assigned.
• Set standards for all activities of the Department including but not limited to storing, service of food, sanitation and
   infection control quality assurance, occupational health and safety, staff performance standards.
• Prepares and administers budget for the department including regular reporting of financial status and other relevant
   statistical information.
• Ensures that assessment of residents’ nutritional risk level and nutritional needs are met. Ensures monthly documentation
   is completed as per Ministry of Health guidelines.
• Develop and implement a menu cycle in consultation with the Dietitian which meets the resident's nutritional needs and
   Ministry of Health Standards. To maintain on-going evaluation of the menu with informal and formal input from residents.
• Oversees the coordination of community events within the Homes. Responsible to work with other departments when
   needed to plan these events.
• Continue professional growth.

Qualifications:
• 2 year Community College Diploma in Food Service and Nutrition Management from a recognized institution.
• University Degree at Bachelor’s level in Food Management if required by Homes.
• Minimum of 2 years management experience in a health care setting, preferably in a Long-Term Care facility.
• Member in good standing with the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management.

Preferred Skills:
• Effective communication skills and ability to relate to peers and seniors in a Long-term Care facility.
• Excellent computer skills and demonstrated leadership, written, collaborative and organizational skills.
• Works to create a healthy work environment using a team approach and interdisciplinary collaboration with other    
   teams/departments in both Homes.
• Maintains a professional manner and as such supports other members of the Home and contributes in a positive way to
   the reputation of the Huron County Homes.
• Collaborates with management team to provide ongoing educational opportunities to ensure competent dietary staff and
   to encourage personnel to work to the full scope of their position.
• Exhibits leadership skills to departmental personnel.
