With experience in current management practices, the ideal candidate is energetic, well organized, computer literate and well versed in issues related to nutrition and food services including inventory, purchasing, production and service requirements. 

The education and experience requirements for this role are as follows:

  • College Diploma in Food and Nutrition Management
  • Current member in good standing with the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM)
  • Certified Nutrition Manager as designated by the CSNM and Canadian Council of Professional Certification (CCPC) would be considered an asset
  • Minimum of five (5) years' increasingly responsible experience in commercial or industrial food preparation and service, including food service supervisory or management experience in a food services senior management position in the long-term care sector.

Position Details:

Responsibilities:

  • Assess nutritional needs, diet restrictions and current health plans to create nutritional programs based on health needs of the residents.
  • Consult with physicians and healthcare staff to determine nutritional needs of the residents.

Schedule: Permanent Part-Time: Monday to Friday 0830-1630

Salary: $50 per hour

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Adhering to the Ministry of Health’s Adult Care Regulations and legislation.
  • Developing, evaluating, monitoring and completing nutritional assessments and nutritional care plans for all residents upon admission and as required thereafter.
  • Organizing and maintaining the nutrition assessment and review schedule with current resident list.
  • Updating the resident’s diet binder for food service employees.
  • Identifying residents at nutritional risk and prioritizing accordingly.
  • Planning and monitoring therapeutic diets, dietary restrictions, and supplemental feedings to meet the specialized needs of residents.
  • Monitoring monthly weights and reviewing all significant weight changes.
  • Planning and reviewing menus every six months as well as the corresponding therapeutic and texture modification diets and implementing food production controls.
  • Completing and maintaining audits as assigned.
  • Attending care conferences and resident food council meetings.
  • Providing in-services to staff as required and acting as a resource person regarding residents’ nutritional/feeding concerns.
  • Preparing monthly reports detailing clinical activities and submit to management as required.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned by the DOC or the corporate dietitian.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Current registration with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Food & Nutrition from a university accredited by College of Dietitians of British Columbia
  • Knowledge of Dysphagia assessment, CB diets and PCC is an asset
  • Reserved Act A designation
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with members of the interdisciplinary team, residents, and families

  • Provides clients with nutrition counseling, educational resources, support, referrals to other community agencies, food supplement vouchers and prenatal vitamin supplements as needed through home or office visits, phone calls and other methods.
  • Consults with other professionals in the community, with the consent of clients, to coordinate client care.
  • Charts all pertinent information in client files in a non-judgmental, objective format as outlined in HBP and OCS Policy and Procedure manuals.
  • Evaluates, revises, develops and orders nutrition education resources.
  • Participates in Lunch Club support groups by: attending the Lunch Club; interacting with clients to provide support; preparing and facilitating activities and educational sessions at group setting; assisting staff in other Lunch Club duties.
  • Coordinates Community Kitchen groups by:  planning, preparing and facilitating activities and educational sessions at group setting; interacting with clients to provide support and education.
  • Attends staff meetings regularly, and other community meetings as requested by Program Manager.
  • Consults with program manager regarding caseloads, client status and client service plans.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Makes recommendations with regard to the development of the program and participates in program evaluations.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education, Training, and Experience:

  • University degree in Nutrition/Dietetics and completion of an accredited dietetic internship;
