The typical duties and responsibilities of a Support Services Supervisor include:

 

  • Supervises designated staff by scheduling and co-ordinating work assignments, determining related training and orientation requirements, and providing feedback to employees.
  • In consultation with the Clinical Dietician, plans menus and develops recipes according to nutritional and therapeutic diet needs of the patients/residents.
  • Estimates food, housekeeping and laundry requirements, and orders and receives supplies and resolves discrepancies with suppliers.
  • Visits patients/residents and/or family members to obtain and exchange diet-related information.
  • Monitors expenditures for assigned areas; makes recommendations regarding budget allocations and resolves discrepancies for the assigned areas.

 

 

  • Evaluates meals being served to ensure established standards of quality and quantity are maintained.
  • Directs a variety of cleaning duties such as cleaning of patients rooms before and after discharge, disinfecting washrooms, changing drapes and cubicle curtains, and vacuuming and polishing floors.
  • Directs a variety of laundry/linen duties including ordering of clean linens from Regional Laundry, preparing soiled linens, loading/unloading of washers/dryers, and the distribution of linens throughout the facility.

The Volunteer’s Role
 
The overall purpose of this placement is to strengthen the community level livelihood, food security and nutrition service provision in East Harrarghe Zone through capacity building and system strenthening in East Harrarghe Government sectors and community-based organizations who are workind with zonal nutrition coordination committee, through Haramaya University.

Specific Objectives:
- Identification of the livelihood and food security mechanisms of the commuity
- Strengthening the livelihood and food security programming capacity of the development workers


As a volunteer, you will:

- Assist in the assessment of the main household livelihoods particularly the food security mechanisms
- Support the capacity building activities for livelihood and food security programming for Zonal, District and Kebele level
  development workers
- Assist the design and implmentation of household level variety food production interventions
- Support Haramaya University in designing relevant community development interventions
- Promote and assist household consumption of variety nutritious foods including cooking demonstration


Essential Academic Qualifications:

MSc/MA degree preferred in the following fields of study:
- Development Studies, Community Development, Rural Development, Agricultural Economics, Community Nutrition

Essential Professional Background:

Miniumum of three years work experience in designing community development interventions
- Demonstrated work experience in capacity development of agriculture and food security experts
- Experience on household livelihood or food security assessments is an asset

Terms and Conditions
 
Cuso International terms and conditions allow you to lead a modest and healthy lifestyle while being effective in your placement. Residency
The majority of Cuso International volunteer applicants are residing in Canada at the time of application and during the pre-departure process. Occasionally we received applications from volunteer applicants who are residing outside of Canada at the time of application. In both instances, between your application date and placement start date, we must be able to contact you and you must be able to contact us easily and promptly throughout the process.

We may require your passport and would need to be aware of your current place of residence and any travel plans you may have during this time. You will also require unrestricted access to Canada during this time for assessment and training, as applicable.

Job Summary

Qualifications

 

Education/Certification:

  • Proven related knowledge and experience in an institutional food, housekeeping and laundry setting.

  • Delivers strong operational performance by executing against Aramark Healthcare and regulatory agency standards and programs, continually monitoring operations, and completing assessments and necessary action plans to provide optimal food quality and meal service, and drive patient and customer satisfaction.

  • Directs, staffs, and trains food service department regarding food presentation, quality, cost control, and cash handling.
  • Develops operational component forecasts and is able to explain variances. Responsible for component's accounting functions.
  • Ensures compliance with all contract obligations.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in nutrition preferred.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of food management experience in a  healthcare environment, acute or long term care setting
  • CSNM certification and membership
  • The ability to manage in a diverse environment with focus on client and customer services, and building and growing a strong business.
  • Ability to communicate (listening, verbal and written) effectively with clients, customers of the client and support staff.
  • Ability to respond effectively to changing demands.
  • Ability to write business letters, summaries and reports, using prescribed format and conform to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistics. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Requires strong management and leadership skills, and the ability to work with confidential employee,  client, and Aramark information.

The ideal candidates will possess:

  • Minimum of two years supervisory experience in a volume food preparation environment in a retirement/LTC residence, the healthcare or hospitality industry;
  • Successful and minimum completion of a post-secondary diploma in Food and Beverage Management from a recognized institution;
  • An active membership with the CSNM and designation of Certified Nutrition Manager (CNM);
  • Current qualification as a chef and in possession of a Food Service Supervisors certificate;
  • Minimum of one year experience in front of house and customer service;
  • Prior labour relations experience preferred;
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal);
  • Effective interpersonal and conflict resolution skills;

The Food and Nutrition Manager in a Long Term Care Residence will oversee the management and organization of the Food and Nutrition department, to provide high quality food and nutritional services to the residence with emphasis on the individual needs of the residents.

The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

• Participation in Resident Care Conferences with other members of the leadership team and support resident and family council    in chairing the Food Committee;
• Completing Resident Nutritional Assessments; including quarterly assessments, MDS, including RAPs where implemented,           QI’s and follow up documentation and intervention as needed, on residents identified at moderate and low nutritional risk.;
• Manages, implements, communicates and supports residents and/or families in the involvement and participation in                
   determining appropriate nutritional care needs;
• Visits residents during meal times to monitor resident acceptability of food;
• Monitors all procedures for resident meal service to ensure the required standards are maintained;
• Implements and maintains the activities of the Quality Improvement audit schedule;
• Reports directly to the Administrator on all aspects concerning the operation of the dietary department;
• Works in collaboration with the residence’s Registered Dietitian;
• Accountable for the compliance with approved operational budget for the Food and Nutrition department, including                      staff budget and deployment of staff to meet the needs of the residents;
• Coordinate the purchase of food, supplies and equipment required, conducts monthly food inventory;
• Follow the monthly accounting calendar and submit all required information in a timely manner;
• Complete Payroll;
• Develops annual goals and objectives for the Food and Nutrition department;
• Responsible for hiring of departmental staff, plans and implements orientation, staff training and in-service education                  to staff according to needs of the home and regulatory body standards;
• Ensure that optimal safety standards are maintained by all Food and Nutrition department employees;
• Monitor and evaluate employee performance. This includes the completion of annual Performance Appraisals,                             Staff Appreciation and/or Progressive discipline measures where required.

The ideal candidates will possess:
• Diploma in Food and Nutrition Management from a recognized program;
• Must be an active Member of the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management or a Registered Dietitian;
• Current provincial Safe Food Handling Certificate;
• Previous professional experience in a health care setting an asset;
• Proficient Computer skills;
• Knowledge in clinical documentation;
• Demonstrate organizational and interpersonal skills;
• Solid knowledge of basic therapeutic nutrition as it relates to the needs of the Long-Term Care population;
• Time Management skills with ability to prioritize and multitask;
