This webinar will explain what is a genetically modified organism (GMO), how they are created, what are the benefits of using GMOs in the industry, as well as the possible long term environmental and health effects that these organisms may have. Examples of GMOs will include several of which are found in food, as well as some others that are used in the pharmaceutical industry. Through this webinar, you will be able to learn and determine if understanding GMOs is important for your family and your clients. Do GMOs are able to end world hunger?

Alicia Mazari-Andersen, RHN, PhD

Alicia was born and raised in Mexico City where she studied a Bachelors and Masters in Biology. She was sponsored by the University in Mexico to study a PhD in Botany at UBC. She also spent a couple of years as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Victoria. She has been a University and College Instructor for more than 20 years at different institutions in Vancouver. Currently she teaches at Thompson Rivers University Open Learning, at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine, and at Corpus Christi College. She also completed a diploma in Adult Education, as well as a diploma in Holistic Nutrition in 2011. She started her home-based business based on education, and she now teaches Nutrition as well as Biology. She believes that knowledge is key to empower people to make better healthy choices in their lives.
