POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Nutritional Services, helps prepare and serve food and beverages in accordance with the resident’s diet requirements at meal times, sets and clears dining rooms, is responsible for the washing of all dishes, silverware, pots and pans, the preparation of vegetables and assisting with serving in dining rooms.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have completed the Food Service Worker training program or be enrolled in a Food Service Worker training program offered by an established college as listed in the Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology Act, 2002 and be in possession of a Food Handler certificate.

Must have current Food Handler certificate.

CURRENT SALARY SCALE: $23.74 - $24.75/hr.

Shift Premiums:

$0.60/hr for hours worked during the 4 p.m. one day and 5 a.m. the next day

$0.65/hr on all hours worked between Friday 11 p.m. and Sunday 11 p.m.

Vacations – Part time employees

  • Employees with less than 2 years of continuous service shall receive 4% vacation pay and will be entitled to time off in the amount of 2 weeks
  • 2 years but less than 6 years – 6% vacation pay and 3 weeks time off
  • 6 years but less than 14 years – 8% vacation pay and 4 weeks time off
  • 14 years but less than 22 years – 10% vacation pay and 5 weeks time off
  • 22 years – 12% vacation pay and 6 weeks off

Job Description – Food Service Worker

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Nutritional  Services, helps prepare and serve food and beverages in accordance with the resident’s diet requirements at meal times, sets and clears dining rooms, is responsible for the washing of all dishes, silverware, pots and pans, the preparation of vegetables and assisting with serving in dining rooms.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1.   Portions out and serves food and beverages, i.e. waits on tables.
  1.   Familiarizes self with residents’ diet requirements.
  1.   Prepares food trays for various areas in Lodge.
  1.   Clears dishes from dining room tables.
  1.   Cleans dining room table prior to setting with dishes for next meal.
  1.   Refills condiments in resident dining rooms.
  1.   Cleans refrigerator and surrounding areas in resident family friendly areas, and servery.
  1.   Ensures excess food from serveries is returned to cooks in main kitchen or dispose of, if the cooks have no need for the item.
  1.   Processing dishes through dishwasher.
  1.  Disposes of garbage and ensures all recyclables are disposed of properly.
  1.  Cleans equipment and work areas within kitchen, servery and dining rooms including mopping of floors according to assigned sheets; mops up any spills that may occur.
  1.   Prepares dishwasher for use by filling with water and detergent.
  1.   Removes excess food from dishes prior to placing in dishwasher racks.
  1.   Racks dishes prior to processing through dishwasher.
  1.  Removes dishes and cutlery from racks after dishwasher cycle and puts away or put on proper serving cart.
  1.  Soaks silverware in prescribed amount of solution prior to processing through dishwasher.
  1.  Soak pots and pans in Turbo Wash sink and then wash in the dish machine.
  1.  Put dishes away in proper area.
  1.  Prepares vegetables.
  1.  Transport food carts to serving areas.
  1.  Collects guest meal tickets from guest prior to serving a guest meal.
  1.  Receive frozen and dry goods; checks that all stock is received and puts stock away; rotates stock as required once a week as assigned.
  1.  Records temperatures for fridges, food and dishwasher as assigned.
  1.  Record any leftover food or food that is short on appropriate daily over/under food record sheets.
  1.  Record diet changes requisitioned by Dietician and Registered Staff in appropriate documents.
  1.  Make appropriate changes to spreadsheet and menu boards when advised to do so for menu substitutions or other menu changes.
  1.  Trains and orientates new staff.
  1.  Attends in-services and educational programs as assigned.
  1.  Provide person and family centred care to support physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of the resident.
  1.  Performs other related duties as assigned.
  1.  Completion of RAI MDS requirements as scheduled and assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum Grade 10 education.
  1. Ability to understand both written and verbal communication.
  1. Good interpersonal skills.
  1. Skilled in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  1. Must have completed the Food Service Worker training program or be enrolled in a Food Service Worker training program offered by an established college as listed in the Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology Act, 2002 and be in possession of a Food Handler certificate.

Note:   This requirement does not include students or seasonal workers hired on a part time/casual basis, or cooks/chefs who have a diploma from an established college as listed in the Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology Act, 2002 or a registered private career college in Ontario or cooks that have attained Interprovincial Standards Red Seal Program status.
