Position Title: Food Service Manager

Reporting To: Executive Director

Hours: Full Time

Location: Banwell Gardens Care Centre, 3000 Banwell Rd. Tecumseh ON N8N 0B3


Position Summary:

Food and Nutrition Managers supervise food preparation and service operations. Food and nutrition managers work as part of a team with representatives of other departments in their organizations. They may work under the direction of a dietitian.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

• Plan and evaluate menus according to nutrition standards and menu planning principles
• Co-ordinate and plan food service department operations by setting department goals, policies and procedures
• Monitor, maintain and improve quality standards through audits, surveys, checks and inspections
• Maintain safety and sanitation standards
• Establish, monitor and evaluate resident meal preparation and service
• Purchase food, equipment and supplies to established specifications and ensure proper receiving and storage implement budgets and   
   control costs
• Make recommendations for improving food intake based on residents’ needs
• Adapt resident menus for special nutrient needs or restrictions
• Hire, train and direct the work of food service personnel
• Keep records of resident information.

Qualifications and Experience:

Food and nutrition managers need the following characteristics:

• Must be a member of the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management or a Registered Dietitian
• An interest in food and its composition, preparation and service
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Organizational and leadership abilities
• Good problem solving skills
• The ability to work in a team environment
• The ability to adapt in an atmosphere of constant change
• An interest in helping people make healthy choices
• The ability to put clients at ease and instill confidence
