Ask What's Not Working, Then Change It

Hi, everyone, and welcome to November.

The CSNM board recently wrapped up our fall leadership meetings in St. John's, Newfoundland. We spent some dedicated time reflecting on personal leadership and navigating change, and one insight really stuck with me. I want to share it with you because it flips an old saying on its head.

We've all heard, "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again." But what if we thought about it a bit differently? If at first you don't succeed, ask what's not working, and then change it.

Maybe you're hitting a wall with an operational process. Maybe it's a staffing puzzle, or a project that isn't progressing the way you'd hoped. Give yourself permission to step back, take some time, and identify what simply isn't working. Try to let go of doing things just because they've always been done that way, and lean into a fresh approach.

Save the Date: CSNM Fall Virtual Symposium

In the spirit of adapting and growing, I have some exciting news about our biggest event this month. Mark your calendars: the CSNM Fall Virtual Symposium takes place on Wednesday, November 25th, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM Eastern.

Registration details are coming soon, so stay tuned. In the meantime, save the date in your calendar.

During the symposium, we will also announce the winner of the UK Exchange Opportunity in partnership with Burlodge. Good luck to everyone who applied!

Thank you once again for your continued dedication to this profession. I hope you all have a wonderful start to your November, and I look forward to seeing you virtually on November 25th.

Kaila Saunders, NM
CSNM President
