CSNM Online Exam Rules


As part of the eligibility for Membership with CSNM, you will need to obtain at least 65% on the CSNM Entrance Examination.

The CSNM Entrance Examination includes 100 multiple choice and true/false questions, plus 3 long answer Essay Questions.

  • The exam candidate will need to ensure that they have a PC or Laptop with a microphone, camera and a reliable internet connection.

  • The browser to use to get the best results should be - a current version of Google Chrome.

  • The exam candidate will be sent the link to access the online system approximately two weeks prior to the exam date, in order to complete an Equipment Check Demo and to have access to a practice exam, (Multiple choice questions).  The Link sent will be the same link to use for the real exam, but the candidate will not have access to the real exam until the time and date of the real exam.

  • It's important that the exam candidate access the online system prior to the exam date, to do the Equipment Check Demo Exam.  This will ensure the access works properly, and that your system is compatible.  

  • The Exam will be monitored by a qualified proctor(s).  During the exam, a proctor box will be visible on your screen. If the Proctor box is in your way of reading something on the screen, you can click and drag it to another location.
  • If you have a question specific to the exam process, you can click on the top right corner of the proctor screen and choose - Need Help.  NOTE:  The proctor will not be able to answer specific exam content questions.

  • Exam candidates must present to the proctor their formal Government-issued photo identification.   This is Mandatory - without it, you will not be able to proceed with the Exam.

  • The examination will commence promptly at the designated start time and you will have 180 minutes (3 hours) to write the exam.  The 3 hours does not include the initial start-up procedure time (verifying name and ID).  The exam time is from 1:00 pm ET to 4:00 pm ET (Eastern Time).

  • If you lose connection after you have started the exam, you will need to contact us at examsupport@csnm.ca to reschedule the exam, (A $50.00 rescheduling fee may be applicable).

  • Your workspace for this exam needs to be clear, (no clutter or papers around), and also must be free from any additional individuals.

  • You are to have your video and audio on and remain in camera view at all times.

  • The Exam session will be recorded.  The information within your exam session will be kept private and confidential.

  • All personal items shall not be within reach or view of the proctor(s).

  • No Cellphones are permitted.

  • No headphones/earbuds are perrmitted.
  • No additional resources are permitted, i.e. notes/textbooks.

  • You will have access to an electronic calculator, (no other calculator is approved for the exam).  A basic calculator will be embedded in the areas of the exam where a calculator may be needed.  To use the calculator, use your mouse and click on the appropriate calculator keys.  Your keyboard will not work with this calculator.

  • No access is permitted to any other websites/ programs.

  • No scrap paper is to be used for the exam.

  • You cannot attempt to print anything from this exam, (no screenshots etc.,).

  • You will have access to ONE 5-minute bathroom break if needed.  No need to let the proctor know, once you are gone from the screen you will be timed.  Be sure you are back with the 5 minute period.

  • If you defer/move your exam within 15 business days of your exam date, you may be charged a $50.00 rescheduling fee.
  • If you cancel your exam and do not plan to write at all you will be subject to a $50.00 administration fee.


Any violation of the examination rules or any cheating
will result in your exam being null and void.

During the Exam:

Once you enter the exam online
  • The system will ask you to take your picture.
  • You will need to show Government issued Photo Identification.
  • Once the exam starts there will be a timer visible so that you can keep track of your time left.
  • The proctor(s) for the exam will monitor for the whole exam time, (See points 5 & 6 above).
  • Your computer will go into full-screen mode, if you go out of that for any reason, it will be noted.
  • Once you have completed your Exam, please make sure to SUBMIT the exam, there will be an optional feedback survey to fill out after you submit the exam.

Tips for Completing the Exam

  • You can answer the questions in any order that you wish.
  • Be mindful of the time you have remaining as you progress through the exam.
  • Please read the questions carefully.
  • If you are struggling with the multiple-choice questions, try to eliminate some of the potential answers.
  • Ensure you select an answer for all multiple choice and true/false questions, as then you have a chance of getting it right, even if you are unsure.
  • Ensure you answer all components of the essay questions.
