Food Services Supervisor
Company: Finlandia Village – Finlandia Nursing Home Limited
Terms of Employment: Permanent Full-Time
Position Start Date: ASAP
Salary: $23.88 to $27.92
Position Summary
The Food Services Supervisor is responsible for resident nutritional care, food service monitoring and replacement of the Director of Support Services in his/her absence. The Food Services Supervisor is also responsible for assisting the Director of Support Services with quality improvement initiatives.
Some Key Responsibilities
• Develops individualized nutritional care plans based on assessment of resident’s current and changing dietary needs
• Responsible for weekly menu and production sheet updates and distribution
• Monitors and audits food service areas
• Quality assurance audits and monitoring as required
• Ensure both inter and intradepartmental communication is maintained
• Maintains records and reports in accordance to policy and procedures
• Assists the Director of Support Services in scheduling and shift replacement of Food Service staff
• Provide assistance to the Director of Support Services in developing and maintaining educational and re-instructional programs
• Assists the Director of Support Services in the hiring, training and orientation of the Food Service department
• Provides general supervision of the dietary operation when the Director of Support Services is absent including ordering and monitoring
food items
• Participates in committee meetings such as infection control, quality assurance and health and safety, as required
• Liaises and consults with inspectors and professionals in relation to resident care needs
• Develops and maintains a thorough working knowledge of the Finlandia Village Health and Safety Manual and associated Provincial
Legislation
• Performs Health and Safety inspections and investigations as required
• Performs other related duties as required
Education and Training
• Successful completion of Nutrition Manager diploma or equivalent
• Membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management
Experience:
• Experience in institutional food service an asset
• Finnish language skills an asset
Knowledge
• Ability to read, write and understand oral and written instructions
• Ability to read and interpret manuals related to equipment and systems
• Must have knowledge of current Food Service procedures and best practices
• Must have knowledge of safety rules and procedures and legislation pertaining to food service operations
• Must have knowledge of commercial equipment, chemicals, and WHMIS legislation.
Personal Suitability
• Supervisory skills required to manage staff and resources
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills required to handle a variety of interactions with residents, families, staff and the public
Physical Demands
• Extensive walking and standing
• Some lifting, working in awkward positions required in putting away supplies
• Exposure to heat from the kitchen area
• Exposure to biochemical agents and wet floors
• Stress related to time pressures and deadlines
• Occasional irregular hours and overtime
